My most recent cosplay plan (intended to make an appearance of this October's MCM) is Capable from the new Mad Max, (the ginger wife ;))
Now if you're a little skint but still want to work on a costume, I would totally recommend one of the five wives from Fury Road, because for me this is possibly the cheapest cosplay I've done to date! Here's a basic breakdown of what I needed to create it; (*note* some of these items shift price regularly, so I've just entered the prices that I paid at the time, do shop around for the best price for you!)
Capable Cosplay Cost:
Capable Cosplay Cost:
- £5.60 - 1x White, double size bed sheet. This turned out to be a pretty big bed sheet, so I managed to make all of my main costume from the material provided by it, and even had some left over!
- £3.58 - 1x Half a metre of suadette fabric. This was for the shoe-booty things, I found these a little daunting so actually left them until last to make. But I basically wrapped and sewed the fabric around a pair of cheap pump shoes.
- £1.80 - 1x Pack of 30 hooks and eyes. I needed the halter top of the cosplay to be quite tight so I didn't *ahem* show anything, but I also needed to be able to get it off, so I found that a strip of hooks and eyes hidden under a side panel worked really well for this!
- Total - £10.98!
- Total - £10.98!
Optional Extras:
- £1/2 - Tea/coffee. I found the stark white of my sheets was a little unnervingly inaccurate, I used about 3 teabags and a couple of spoonfuls of coffee granules in a large stew pot filled with warm water and left my outfit to soak up the natural dye. The balance of colour to water that I had gave me the beige I was looking for after leaving the cosplay to dry, and the great thing about this method is you can just add or take away teabags as you need!
- £0.75 - Red berry teabags. Now my hair is naturally quite ginger, but it shifts depending on the lighting/sun soaking/etc. so I wanted to really boost the natural highlights as much as I could to do the cosplay justice. I was reluctant to properly dye it after blunders in the past, so I took to the internet to find if there were any more hair-friendly ways. My favourite method that I found was to soak your hair for 15/20 minutes in warm water infused with several red berry teabags, I then sat out in the sunshine before I rinsed out the mixture.
Accessories:
No, fear not! I haven't forgotten the glove and pilots goggles Capable wears, (despite how difficult I found it to get good pictures to work from...)
However, one of the reasons I am able to do budget cosplay so easily is because I have a very crafty family and therefore; lots of junk laying around the house. We had an appropriately suedette-ish fabric already that was fairly accurate for the glove, and the goggles I decided to try my hand at making with a PVC material, the plastic lid of a takeaway tub and a metal frame from some Primark sunglasses. This was actually pretty easy to do once I got into it, and looks good enough for the costume, but I think if I find extra time after finishing everything I will go back to improve and THEN share the result!
I have yet to officially finish this cosplay, but I'm pretty close and am hoping to fix a couple of bits in the next couple of weeks before I head off to uni, so keep your eyes peeled for an update and *hopefully* some photos!

P.S! -
Since the film isn't out on DVD yet I found it difficult to find good pictures of the things I wanted to work on, so I eventually managed to make a pinterest board of the things that helped me!
